the expression of God’s mind

A few days ago I had a professor say something that I can’t stop thinking about. He bluntly stated, “John 1 is an absolutely horrible translation of the original text. When it references Jesus as 'The Word,' no one really knows what that means. A much better translation would be 'expression of God’s mind.' So, the text should read, 'in the beginning there was the expression of God’s mind. It was with God, and it was God ... and the expression of God's mind became flesh and dwelt among us.'"

WHAT!

Think about the profundity of this translation for just one second!

I have spent many hours of my life wondering what is on God's mind. What does He think about me right now? What does He think about the Church? Is God angry with me? Is he concerned with my past? Has God abandoned me? Is He for me or against me?

These questions have raced throughout my mind during certain seasons of my relationship with God. I'm sure I'm not the only one. However, these desperate questions have been answered by the life of One person. Everything that God thinks, and every single crevice of God's nature has been expressed in human flesh. The cat is out of the bag. Jesus is the physical expression of the Invisible God. Jesus is the truest expression of God's mind.

Do you want to know what is on God’s mind? Do you want to hear His thoughts? Do you want to know His nature and Desires? The physical expression of what occurs within the mind and heart of God is found in the person Jesus. Jesus has come not to condemn the world, but to save it. God is thinking about how badly He wants all people to be saved. That’s why he sent Jesus. To express His mind. The life of Jesus and the Mind of the Father are constantly on one accord.

"So Jesus said, “I speak to you timeless truth. The Son is not able to do anything from himself or through my own initiative. I only do the works that I see the Father doing, for the Son does the same works as his Father."

-John 5:19 TPT

The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit are of one mind and one nature. Though the Father and the Spirit are unable to be seen, we are able to understand their heart and their desire for us through the person of Jesus. Jesus not only gives us the gift of eternal and abundant life; Jesus also gives us the ability to understand the mind of God to a greater degree. Every one of His words and every one of His actions pulled back the curtain of God's mind. What an incredible blessing this is.

Though there are an infinite amount of lessons we can learn from Jesus' life, there is one underlying message from the mind of God that I want everyone to understand: God. Is. For. You.

Look at Jesus. Take comfort in His life. Fall in love with the mind of God. He is for you. He desires your heart. How could we not give up our lives for this man? He is ridiculously good.
